Because a player who doesn't understand the game doesn't need more games — he needs to be taught. Alpha Elite builds the whole player: skill, IQ, confidence, body, and performance. This is elite development, not elite competition — for families playing the long game who trust the grind.
The AAU model has been broken for a long time. Player development has become an afterthought — organizations pack the schedule with more and more games while the quality of play keeps dropping. We do it in the opposite order. Our goal is absolutely to compete, win, and build a high-level AAU organization — but that’s impossible without first developing every player in it. Development comes first. Everything else is built on top of it.

Alpha Bangura is a former professional basketball player with a 17-year career that took him across six continents. He played collegiately at Monmouth University and St. John's University before reaching the NBA — with time in the Washington Wizards, Golden State Warriors, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Clippers organizations, along with the NBA G League. He went on to compete professionally around the world, winning championships, scoring titles, and dunk contests along the way.
Living in countries across the globe gave him a rare ability to connect with people from every background and culture — a perspective he now brings home to the DMV. He has spent his career building basketball programs from the ground up and developing players at every level, having trained and developed hundreds of athletes across the youth, high school, collegiate, and professional ranks.
We don't chase trophies. We build players. Every athlete in the program is developed across five areas — the things that actually make someone competitive, no matter who they line up against.
The fundamentals, taught properly and repped relentlessly — ball-handling, shooting, finishing, footwork. The things most programs assume you already have.
Understanding the game is the great equalizer. Reading defenders, spacing, when to cut, why you're where you are. A smart player beats a talented one who doesn't know how to play.

We practice far more than we play. From mid-March through July we compete in 1–2 tournaments a month plus two leagues — all within the DMV metro. The reps happen in the gym; the games are where we measure them. Expect to lose some early. The win is the player your child becomes.

Every age group is open for registration. An age group only operates once it reaches a minimum of 10 players — our target is a full 12-player roster. We expect 12U–14U to fill first, but any age that hits 10 committed players runs. Spots are limited, and commitment secures your place, so register early and help your age group reach the number.

Alpha Elite AAU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Northern Virginia, serving the entire DMV. We exist to fix what's broken in youth basketball. Too many kids pay real money to sit on a bench, or land in rec basketball dressed up as AAU. AAU isn't for everybody — and we'll tell you that honestly. What we promise every athlete who belongs here is the truth about where they stand, the coaching to get better, and a real platform to be seen. Your donation makes that possible for families who could never afford it — and helps us build a permanent home where this program can grow for good.
